Rachel Wright received her Bachelor of Fine Art degree at the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago in 1991. While in the Windy City, she met Tony Wright, a like-minded fellow
and artist, and after a courtship that involved a brief tour of Europe, they were married in
1992. After three years in the non-academic world, Rachel & Tony became re-enamored
with academia and moved to Carbondale, Illinois to pursue their Master of Fine Art
degrees: he in ceramics, and she in glass.  After many trials and tribulations (including
simultaneous thesis shows), they graduated in 1997.

The couple remained in Carbondale for the following three years, teaching part-time at the
university. When Tony was offered a position at the University of South Alabama, this
intrepid pair packed up their four (yes, four) cats and set their sights on the Deep South.
Eventually, Rachel finagled her way into the art department and is now an adjunct
instructor there.

Rachel has exhibited frequently in Chicago, New Orleans, Mobile, Pensacola, and Panama
City, FL. Her work is primarily sculptural, mixing media such as glass, clay, iron, wood,
wax, fabric, & photographs. She has curated shows for Mobile’s Art off Centre and Space
301, and currently serves on the artist advisory board for the Centre for the Living Arts.
The first step in this contemporary art center is Space 301, an 8,000 square foot gallery
dedicated to contemporary art.
